The Lottery and Gambling Addiction

I've started occasionally playing a lottery that has a multi-million dollar jackpot. I'm concerned about becoming addicted to it. So, I'm taking steps that I hope will help:

  • I'm buying only one ticket per drawing. The tickets are $1 and there are two drawings per week. So, I'm spending $2 per week at most.
  • I'm not going out of my way to get a ticket. There is a place in my building at work that sells lottery tickets. I'm only buying from there and only if the line is short enough.
An ironic thing is that I'm more likely to win a smaller jackpot than a larger one. As the jackpot gets bigger, more and more people buy tickets. That means the line at the retailer is less and less likely to be short.
